Veneto
- The Venetian territory is rich in culture and historic heritage and is defined by contrasts. It is situated between the Dolomite mountain range in the north, with its valleys and woods, Lake Garda, Italy's biggest lake, in the west and the Adriatic Sea in the east
- Its most important and well-known cities are Verona, the hometown of the two lovers on who Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet is based, and Venice, once one f the most powerful cities Europe's and today one of the most visited cities in the world
- Another Venetian attraction are the thermal baths of Abano Terme, which according to a legend was founded by the Greek hero Hercules, and the Euganean Hills Nature Park
- In general, the cuisine is based on foods like polenta, made from cornmeal, risotto, a hearty rice dish, beans and vegetables, the most popular of which is radicchio, as well as mushrooms in either fresh or dried form
- The special drink of Veneto is the 'Prosecco', a sparkling white wine, which is mainly served as aperitif, but the region also produces fine merlots and cabernets
- The south of the region predominantly enjoys a mild and pleasant Mediterranean climate, especially around Lake Garda. Further north winters are very cold and summers less dry and fresher
