Liguria
- Liguria is one of the smallest regions in Italy and is situated in the north-west of the country on the border to France
- The region consists of the four provinces Imperia, Savona, Genoa and La Spezia
- Liguria is a country of contrasts - Its territory is mainly mountainous, dominated by the Ligurian Alps and the Ligurian Apennines, but also offers a fascinating countryside as well as a coastal strip on the Ligurian Sea, which is often referred to as the Italian Riviera
- Liguria's coastline can be divided into the 'Riviera di Ponente' (west of Genoa), with plenty of bays and beaches, and the 'Riviera Levante' (east of Genoa), characterised by cliffs and beautiful landscapes, the most famous of which probably is 'Cinque Terre' (The five lands), a National Nature Reserve formed by five towns and famous for its natural beauty
- Genoa, where famous explorer Christopher Columbus is said to have been born, is the capital of the region
- Due to Liguria's geographical position, close to the sea with mountains in the hinterland it has a very mild, Mediterranean climate
- Liguria is an ancient region; it is full of cultural and historic heritage, especially in the inland, were people can visit typical medieval villages, castles, monasteries and much more
- Liguria's cuisine is very unique, aromatic, simple and light. Its gastronomy beautifully combines sea, garden and forest ingredients and has experienced influences from the Middle East, Spain, North Africa and also southern France
